Nanyang Khek Community Guild (南洋客屬總會) will be celebrating its 90th Anniversary this year. As Singapore is celebrating its 54th year of independence and Bicentennial this year, Nanyang Khek Community Guild decided to make it a triple celebration with a charity concert, an anniversary dinner and a souvenir magazine.
Nanyang Khek Community Guild is proud to hold a charity concert as part of its 90th Anniversary celebrations, and to be able to contribute to back to the community through this event at the same time. The “Nanyang Khek Community Gift of Warmth Charity Concert 2019” (客逢獅城獻溫情慈善演唱會)will be held at the Esplanade Theatre on 12 June 2019. Proceeds raised will be in support of Autism Association (Singapore)’s Eden Endowment Fund.
Autism Association (Singapore) was chosen as the so beneficiary as Nanyang Khek Community Guild feels that Singaporeans lacks awareness about autism. There is a need for public to understand what is autism and how to make sure persons with autism are a part of our community. While there are special schools for children with autism, there is no longer an institution for them after they pass 18 years of age. Hence, the transition from childhood to adulthood can be frightening for persons with autism. Their care givers are in need of support as well. Nanyang Khek Community Guild wants to take this opportunity to provide more awareness and support towards this group.
“Autism is a lifelong condition with varying degrees of severity and challenges. The highest needs are felt amongst adults with moderate to severe autism. Support from the community in this space is essential to ensure that they can continue to live more independently and integrate with society. The Autism Association (Singapore) is deeply grateful to the Nanyang Khek Community Guild for their strong support and understanding of this need. We are inspired by Nanyang Khek Community Guild’s tangible support through the fund raising campaign they have painstakingly put together to help provide the funds for our programmes and services for our adult clients with moderate to severe autism. It takes a village to make a difference and the Nanyang Khek Community Guild is indeed making the difference.”
Quote by Mr Ho Swee Huat, Chairman, Autism Association (Singapore)
The charity concert will be a heart-warming and memorable performance by Taiwan’s Angelic Singer Chyi Yu, China’s upcoming young artiste Zhou Shen, China’s elite Hakka Singer Huang HongYing and Singapore’s very own composer singer Roy Loi Fey Huei.
