隨著首相敦馬哈迪批評反貪會過去漠視猖獗的貪腐問題，同時暗示將「換人做做看」，預料現任反貪會主席丹斯里祖基菲里將會被撤換。
據《每日新聞》獲得的消息指出，阿布卡欣是反貪會新任「一哥」的人選之一，因為他仍屬於反貪會官員，而且是於2016年，第一批領導調查一馬發展公司（1MDB）和SRC國際私人有限公司醜聞的官員。
阿布卡欣沒退休只是調職
他在反貪會服務長達34年，出任反貪會「一哥」長達6年7個月，其實他被調離反貪會後並沒有退休，而是調職到瑪拉工藝大學的一個小單位，他仍然是特別級II（Gred Utama Turus II）的公務員。
反貪會一名高級官員透露，阿布卡欣絕對有「回歸」的可能，因為後者還沒有退休和辭去公務員職，他被安置在瑪拉工藝大學的一個廉正單位。
他說，阿布哈欣的強制退休日期是2020年12月6日，在那一天之前他還是反貪會官員。
「我們都知道發生了什麼事，他是一名特級II公務員，不應該在有關大學的廉正單位工作，尤其是他在反貪領域的專業知識和誠信，不僅是反貪會需要的，更是國家需要的。」
他指出，爆發一馬公司醜聞後，阿布卡欣是首個領導調查的官員，但這令到一些人不喜歡，導致阿布卡欣被調職和從公眾的視線中「退休」。
「隨著希望聯盟聯邦政府的成立，首相敦馬哈迪可以恢復阿布卡欣的職位。」

他認為阿布卡欣將能在調查一馬公司（1MDB）和SRC醜聞方面扮演重要角色，何況反貪會至今都沒有關閉對此案的調查，只是當年受到某方的阻撓後，案件一直處於「待處理」狀態。
阿布卡欣在反貪會的任期原定在2018年12月4日屆滿，但在2016年6月杪卻宣布於8月1日提早卸任。

反貪會主席一職則由總檢察署國家稅收執法組主任祖基菲里阿末出任。
