新加坡眼按：李光耀女兒李玮玲對紀念李光耀一事有不同意見，但是本地報章沒有發表她的文章。她決定不再給海峽時報寫稿，理由是報紙不夠“言論自由”。針對不少網友說新加坡並不“言論自由”，也許正因爲其父親李光耀所致。李玮玲在facebook個人主面上澄清：父親李光耀從來不曾限制過正確的言論或討論，只是對付誹謗不會手軟。

當張業成的《言論自由的邊界》出版時，記者Janadas 曾經和我抱怨過，說張業成很狡猾，因爲他請求我父親爲他的書寫前言，之後卻在書中批判我的父親。我沒讀過這本書，但是我屢次和父親提起Janadas的話，父親只是聳聳肩，不作回答。幾周前，當我在整理父親書櫃時，發現了這本書，就讀了一番。書中的內容都是真實的記敘，沒有任何批判的意圖。我把這件事告訴了一個作爲行動黨幹部的朋友，他說當時的總理李顯龍曾經打電話批評張業成。聽到這件事後，我立馬打電話給張業成告訴他，父親並沒有在意Janadas的評論，他當時只聳了聳肩而已。業成說，玮琳，你的爸爸沒有把它當回事。然後我繼續和業成說，我聽說李顯龍有批評你，業成說，不是批評，他只是想指出一些問題，我已經解釋給顯龍聽，我沒有攻擊你的父親，是在維護你的父親。對于那些批判我父親限制言論自由的人，你們錯了。如果你們的陳述是正確的，那麽罷了。但如果你們是誹謗，我一定會在法庭上，爲我的名譽所辯護。

When Cheong Yip Seng’s book, “OB Markers” was published, Janadas Devon complained to me that Cheong was sly, that he asked my father to write a foreword, then criticized my father in the book. i had not read the book, but repeated what Janadas told me to my father. Pa merely shrugged his shoulders.
A few weeks ago, I found the book as I was looking through Pa’s book shelves, and read it. it was all factual narratives, I did not think there was any attempt to criticize. Pa does not worry about factual comments of him. I mentioned this to a friend who is a PAP cadre. He told me Hsien Loong, who was by then PM, had called up Cheong to scold him. On the spur of the moment, I phoned Cheong to tell him that father was not bothered by Janadas’ accusations his only response was a shrug. Cheong said, “Wei Ling, your father is to big for this.” I went on to tell Cheong that I was told that Hsien Loong had called him up to scold him. Cheong said, “not scold. He wanted to point out some issues. I tried to explain to Hsien Loong that I was defending your father, NOT attacking him.”
For the cynics who complain that Pa restricted freedom of speech, you are wrong. If your statement is accurate, fine. If it is slander, l will have to defend my reputation in court.
